Name: | Yamada, Akira |
---|---|
Birthdate: | Jul 13 |
Name: Yamada, Akira
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Occupation: Up and Coming Duelist/Tournament Winner ; Assistant to Mamoru's research
Duel Information: Heralds. May or May Not Include CACs to avoid Counter Angels entirely
PB/Description: Young man with very dark purple hair and violet eyes. He looks a lot like Mamoru probably looked like when he was younger, but clearly has a more upbeat outlook on life than his uncle does-- which reflects into how he presents himself and takes care of himself. He also wears metal earrings on each ear, but he keeps them hidden by his hair.
Personality: A good-natured fellow who respects his opponents. He has a lot of confidence in himself, and is one of the only family members left in Mamoru's life who still unwaveringly cares about him.
However, this doesn't negate Akira's own frustration at how his uncle behaves at times, and he has a deep-seated worry as he's grown up that if he doesn't start to act, the man who was once someone he looked up to will make a terrible choice because of circumstances no one truly understands. He wants to avoid that by any means possible.
Otherwise, Akira is pretty well-adjusted personality-wise, and has an enjoyment for dramatics and even Action Duelist displays, though he's never had the chance to participate in one personally thanks to limited installations.
He does, however, seem to have a recent problem of hearing things that aren't there... But he'd say those are just invasive thoughts, that's all. And nothing more.
History: You've already heard this type of story before: He's an average guy who grew up in an average family-- perhaps he's been a bit blessed too. His uncle was incredibly successful and intelligent in what was a more unusual area of work, and it allowed some leniency when it came to Akira wanting to learn how to duel and get into Pro Dueling.
Now, his dad wasn't too keen on the idea of Duel Academy, especially after Akira's Psychic Duelist powers started to manifest. So he was made to stick with tabletop dueling for a long time, avoiding the use of Duel Disks for his own safety. When Psychic Limiters became a thing, his parents immediately got him tested and fitted for them, but really, Akira didn't know why he had to bother with them. He was very emotionally stable, and he never thought it was an issue... but if it let him do duels like normal, then he'd allow it, opting to take the limiters as earrings.
Once he had them fitted and it was proven that they worked, Akira went in full-time on attending tournaments. It was already a little late for him to attend Duel Academy, so he had a lot more pressure on him to show himself as being competent. Which, to his credit, he's done his very best in those areas.
But then his uncle was in the news: that he had gone berserk and attacked his fellow scientists, injuring many of them before wandering off into the city with the artifact they had fished up from the Tokyo Bay, near Domino City, before being later found unconscious with the artifact shattered.
What followed was a tense period. Akira's parents no longer trusted his uncle Mamoru. He was disgraced as a scientist and labeled a danger to himself and others, and a lot of blame was placed onto the fact that he was also a registered Psychic Duelist. He refused further contact with others for a long period of time, and it felt as though it was only due to Akira's stubbornness that he finally managed to get back to talking with him. Things moved slowly on that front, even when a job offer came for Mamoru for a position at LDS as a technician for the Real Solid Vision system.
Now, of course, that confused Akira. Why would his uncle, who had been working for so long as a researcher for artifacts relating to monsters, work as a technician for something he had never worked on before?
Of course, it seemed to help a bit, especially when Mamoru spoke with him about the idea of recreating Akira as an AI using the Real Solid Vision and the Dueling Robot he had access to as an extended project. Wanting to help, Akira agreed to it.
... and then things went more quiet. He got sporadic updates about it, of course. How Mamoru had been progressing. Akira mentioning that he could come and help with it, and that it was agreed upon that it'd be helpful, but it was still a ways off before he'd need the help. Less updates, and even less... It wasn't until many months later that Mamoru finally mentioned a month for Akira to come and stay with him to help at LDS. And of course, Akira was excited. He'd be graduated by then, and he could consider signing up then for the Duel College, or staying with LDS to help.
... and then after a major attack happened in Domino City in the wake of the Duel Festival and the "Wonder Quartet", he was suddenly told to not come. He was pretty angry about that part. Sure, what happened sounded dangerous... but his uncle sounded even more depressed than usual, and it worried him that he was using this as an excuse to get back into the rut he's been in.
No, he wasn't going to allow this. He wasn't going to let that happen. He didn't tell his parents that his uncle had changed his mind, and he just... went to Domino as planned.
Of course, Mamoru wasn't too happy about that either, but if there's anything Akira is, it's stubborn.
Abilities: Registered Psychic Duelist, but he's wearing Limiters so there's no chance of his power manifesting in a duel.... unless, of course, something goes terribly wrong, but just look at him. He's so well-adjusted, that'll never happen.
